Giving Back

All members of the Trustwell Law Group are committed to giving back—to our communities, veterans, children, and others. Our team supports a variety of local, national, and international charities.

The scales of justice.

People too often receive exactly as much “justice” as they can afford. But our legal system—and indeed our increasingly complex society—work well only when every person can obtain needed legal advice and services and has realistic access to courts. Lawyers have a special responsibility to use their legal education, skills, and experience to open the doors of our justice system to those who would otherwise be shut out because they cannot afford to pay.

The scales of justice.

The Judicial Conferences of the District of Columbia and the D.C. Circuit have called on all members of the D.C. Bar to at least:

  • Accept one court-appointed representation each year, or
  • Provide at least 50 hours of pro bonolegal service each year, or
  • If personal representation is not possible, make appropriate financial contributions to organizations providing legal assistance to low-income people in their communities.

Trustwell lawyers have tried to do their part by providing the following types of pro bonolegal services:

  1. helping clients seeking Social Security disability benefits
  2. helping clients obtain Orders of Protection in domestic violence cases
  3. through the D.C. Bar Advice and Referral Clinic, counseling low-income clients on various civil legal issues and referring them to appropriate government agencies and legal service providers

Our other law-related volunteer work includes participating in the Lawyers in the Classroom program by visiting local schools and leading classroom discussions about the Bill of Rights.
